Ecwid
Install the Yaplet chat widget on an Ecwid Instant Site with Ecwid's built-in Custom JavaScript code setting. No app and no theme editing.
Overview
Ecwid by Lightspeed lets you add your own code to every page of an Instant Site, the website that comes with an Ecwid store. Pasting the Yaplet code there puts the chat widget on the whole site. No app, developer or theme editing is needed.
If the Ecwid store is shown inside another website (for example WordPress, Wix or a custom site), install Yaplet on that website instead, with its own guide. The steps below are for Instant Site.
Installation Steps
Copy your Yaplet code
In your Yaplet dashboard, go to Brand → Chat widget and open the Install tab. If the tab asks where your website runs, choose Other website. Copy the code with the copy button on the code block.
If the code you copied starts with !function (Yaplet, it has no <script> tags around it yet. Ecwid places what you enter at the end of each page, so you add the tags when you paste it to make the browser run it as a script.
Open your Instant Site settings
In your Ecwid admin, go to Website (or Overview → Manage Instant Site) and scroll down to the Advanced website settings section.
Add the Yaplet code
Under Custom JavaScript code, click Add Code. In the field, paste the Yaplet code. The code must start with a <script> line and end with a </script> line. If what you copied starts with !function (Yaplet instead, type <script> on a new line before it and </script> on a new line after it. The field holds up to 4,000 characters; the Yaplet code is much shorter.
Save the changes. Ecwid's help says to simply refresh the site to see them.
Check your site
Open your Instant Site in a new browser tab and reload it. The Yaplet chat button appears in the bottom-right corner. Click it to check that the chat opens.
Troubleshooting
- Custom code can't be added — the store is on the Starter plan. Custom code needs Venture, Business or Unlimited.
- The code shows up as text at the bottom of the pages — the
<script>tags are missing. Edit the code, put<script>on a new line before it and</script>on a new line after it, and save. - The store sits inside another website — code added in Ecwid only runs on Instant Site. Install Yaplet on the website that shows the store.
- The browser shows an old copy of the page — reload, or open the site in a private browser window.
