BigCommerce
Install the Yaplet chat widget on a BigCommerce store with BigCommerce's built-in Script Manager. No app and no theme editing.
Overview
BigCommerce has a built-in Script Manager for adding outside scripts to a store. Adding the Yaplet code there as a new script puts the chat widget on every storefront page. No app, developer or theme editing is needed.
Installation Steps
Copy your Yaplet code
In your Yaplet dashboard, go to Brand → Chat widget and open the Install tab. If the tab asks where your website runs, choose Other website. Copy the code with the copy button on the code block.
If the code you copied starts with !function (Yaplet, it has no <script> tags around it yet. BigCommerce only saves a script that has these tags, so you add them when you paste it.
Open Script Manager
In your BigCommerce control panel, go to Storefront → Script Manager and click Create a Script.
With Multi-Storefront, Script Manager is in each storefront's settings in Channel Manager. Add the script to every storefront where you want the chat.
Fill in the script
Name the script (for example Yaplet chat) and place it in the page footer. For the pages, choose Storefront pages: every page except checkout and order confirmation. BigCommerce asks for extra security checks on scripts that run on payment pages, so keep the chat off them.
For the script category, choose Functional; BigCommerce lists live chat in this category. For the script type, choose the option to enter the script yourself (not a link to a URL).
In the script field, paste the Yaplet code. The code must start with a <script> line and end with a </script> line. If what you copied starts with !function (Yaplet instead, type <script> on a new line before it and </script> on a new line after it. If BigCommerce asks for a load method, leave it on Default. Click Save.
Check your store
Open your store in a new browser tab and reload it. A new script can take about 20 seconds to reach the store. The Yaplet chat button appears in the bottom-right corner. Click it to check that the chat opens.
Troubleshooting
- BigCommerce says "Enter a valid script" — the
<script>tags are missing. Put<script>on a new line before the code and</script>on a new line after it, and save. - The script was just saved — wait a minute and reload. Scripts can take about 20 seconds to show up.
- The store shows a cookie consent banner — shoppers who turn off functional cookies don't get the chat. To test, open the store in a private browser window and accept all cookies.
- The store uses a Blueprint theme — Script Manager only works with Stencil themes. Switch to a Stencil theme to use it.
- The chat is missing only on checkout — that is expected: Storefront pages leaves out checkout and order confirmation.
