Use AI in the inbox

Updated May 22, 2026

Overview

Yaplet ships five AI tools that run inside the inbox while you're handling a conversation. They're designed to reduce the time you spend writing, not to replace your judgement — always review before sending.

Access them via the AI Tools button in the input toolbar, or use the keyboard shortcuts listed below when the input bar is focused.

AI Reply — generate a draft response

AI Reply reads the conversation history and your connected knowledge base, then writes a draft reply you can edit and send.

  • Shortcut: Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + R
  • The draft appears in the input bar ready to edit.
  • Works best when your widget has a Vex AI chatbot with knowledge base sources connected — without one it still drafts from conversation context but may be less specific.

AI Summary — condense a long thread

AI Summary reads the full conversation and posts a private note containing two sections: the visitor's objective (one sentence) and up to four key points. Use it before a handoff so the next agent is up to speed instantly.

  • Shortcut: Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + S
  • The summary is always posted as a private note — the visitor never sees it.

AI Rephrase — improve your draft

Type your reply naturally, then run AI Rephrase to make it sound more professional and customer-service appropriate. Your original meaning is preserved; only the tone and phrasing improve.

  • Shortcut: Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + P
  • Write your draft in the input bar first, then activate the tool.

AI Grammar — fix spelling and punctuation

AI Grammar corrects errors in your drafted message without changing its meaning or style. Useful when writing quickly or in a second language.

  • Shortcut: Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + G

AI Context — look up your knowledge base

AI Context runs the same retrieval pipeline your AI chatbot uses, but surfaces the result to you as a private note instead of replying to the visitor. It takes the visitor's last message as the search query, finds relevant content from your knowledge base, and gives you a short agent-only answer with clickable source links.

  • Shortcut: Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + C
  • Requires a widget with a Vex AI chatbot connected. Without one, the tool reports there is no knowledge base to search.
  • Source links open the original article, doc page, product URL, or (for uploaded files) a text preview modal — exactly what the chatbot would have referenced.
  • If no sources come back, that's a signal your knowledge base doesn't cover the topic — a prompt to add content.

On mobile

On the mobile app, tap the menu button () in the input area to access AI tools. All five tools are available.

Permissions

AI Reply and AI Context require the Inbox.AI permission. AI Summary requires Inbox.Summary. AI Rephrase and AI Grammar require Inbox.Rephrase. Contact your admin if a tool appears greyed out.
