Build segments with filters

Updated May 22, 2026

Segments vs groups

A segment is a saved filter. Every time you open it — or Yaplet refreshes it — it queries your subscriber list and returns everyone who currently matches the conditions. Add a new subscriber who fits the criteria and they appear in the segment automatically, with no manual work required.

Need a fixed, hand-picked list instead? Use groups.

Create a segment

  1. Go to Newsletter → Subscribers → Segments tab.
  2. Click New segment, give it a name, and click Save.
  3. Yaplet drops you on the Subscribers page with the new segment pre-selected. Open the Filter panel and build your conditions — add rules with AND/OR logic.
  4. Click Save segment filters to store the filter definition back to this segment.

Available filter conditions

You can filter on any subscriber attribute:

  • Email — contains, equals, starts with
  • Name — contains, equals
  • State — the value field is a free text input, not a dropdown. Type one of these literal uppercase strings: VERIFIED, UNVERIFIED, UNSUBSCRIBED, BOUNCED, COMPLAINT, REMOVED.
  • Added at — date range comparisons
  • Custom fields — text match, number range, or date comparison depending on field type

Combine multiple conditions with AND (all must match) or OR (any can match).

Use a segment as campaign recipients

In the campaign builder's Details step, choose Segments under Recipients. Select one or more segments — Yaplet shows a live count of matching subscribers before you send.

You cannot mix segments and groups in the same campaign. Pick one targeting method per send.

Segment stats

The Segments tab shows each segment's subscriber count, average click rate, and bounce rate. Stats reflect the last time you refreshed the segment — there is no automatic schedule. Click the refresh icon on a segment card, or save the segment's filters, to recompute the numbers.

What's next

Ready to target a fixed list? Create a static group. Or use segments to drive an automated workflow that enrolls subscribers who meet your criteria.
