Generate with AI
Let the AI write a newsletter into one of your templates — everything outside the template's Content area stays exactly as designed — or let it design a whole email, change the one you are working on, and add AI images.
How it works
A template is a full email with one Content area: everything around it — the header, the footer, the colors and fonts — is the frame, and it is kept exactly as you designed it. When the AI writes into a template, it composes the content and Yaplet puts it inside the Content area; the frame is never touched. With the template switch off, the AI designs the whole email instead.
One template per workspace is the Default (the star on the Templates page). Copilot and MCP clients start from it when you ask for an email "in my default template".
Where you can generate
- Inside the email editor — the Generate with AI button in the toolbar. This is the main way, and it works everywhere the editor opens: campaigns, email automation steps, templates and verification emails.
- Email templates → New template → Generate with AI — creates the template and opens the editor with the dialog already open, ready to design a whole template.
When you start a campaign or an automation email, the How do you want to start? picker offers From scratch, From a template and From a previous email. There is no AI tile there — pick a starting point, then use the toolbar button.
The template switch
Next to the Generate with AI button sits a switch — Keep the template (in the template editor: Keep the frame). It decides what the AI is allowed to touch, and it only appears when the email has a Content area.

Ask for a frame change while the switch is on — "make the header blue" — and the AI does the rest of your request and tells you what it skipped: "Some of it could not be done — the frame can't be changed while the template switch is on." Turn the switch off, or edit the template itself.
The dialog, step by step
The dialog is one screen: say what you want, click Generate, and the result goes straight into the editor. An Undo toast brings the previous content back, and opening the AI again refines what it made — there is no separate preview step.
1. Change this email, or write a new one
This choice appears only when the editor already has content:
- Change this email — refer to what is there: "shorten the intro", "make the button green", "translate everything to German", "add a P.S. after the bullets". The AI rewrites the whole of what it is allowed to touch — the Content area, or the entire email with the switch off — rather than patching single lines, so wording you did not mention can come back slightly reworded.
- Write a new email — describe a different email; the content is replaced.
An empty editor skips this step and goes straight to writing a new email.
2. What the email should say
Describe it — purpose, key points, offers, links — or, when changing an email, what should change. Below the field, Reuse text from previous emails attaches up to three emails you sent before: the AI may reuse their facts and wording, but their design is not copied.
3. Options
- Allow
{{variables}}— personalisation placeholders such as{{name}}may appear in the copy. - Add AI images — 1, 2 or 3 generated images, placed where they fit, in your brand's image style. An optional field takes extra instructions for them, such as "warm natural light, pastel colors, no people".
4. Generate
The result lands in the editor and a toast says what happened — New content written – header and footer kept, Content changed – header and footer kept, Email changed or Email designed. Undo in the toast restores the previous content. To adjust the result, open the AI again with Change this email.
If a picture cannot be created, the rest of the email is still applied and a toast tells you how many images failed — the placeholders stay, so you can try again or add the pictures by hand.
Generating a single image
You do not need the full dialog to get one picture. Double-click any image in the editor and the image library opens with Generate an image with AI at the top: describe the picture, pick a shape (Wide, Landscape or Square) and click Generate. It lands in your images like an upload and is dropped onto the picture you were editing; if it cannot tell which picture you meant, it stays in the list and you click it to place it. Each image is billed the same way as images from the dialog.
The template's frame in the editor
An email started from a template — or generated into one — keeps that template's frame around the Content area, and the toolbar shows the template's name. Everything is editable, frame included, and your changes stay in this email only: the saved template never changes.
Also in the editor:
- The Content area is the dashed zone on the canvas. Drop blocks into it; it can be moved but not deleted.
- Styled blocks — at the top of the blocks panel: headings, paragraphs, buttons, cards and other sections already in the email's colors and fonts, so hand-built sections match the generated ones. The editor's own blocks follow under Basic blocks.
- Content → Load content replaces what is in the editor with a template or a previous email. It always replaces everything — content, header and footer alike — and asks you to confirm first.
- Content → Save as template turns the whole email into a new template: its header and footer become the frame, its content is kept as starter content inside the Content area.
From Copilot or an MCP client
The same generation is available to Copilot and any MCP client: ask for a campaign "in my default template", name a template, ask for a change to an existing draft, and optionally ask for images. The parameters are listed in the Newsletter Tools reference.
