Phone Agent Tools
What an AI can do with your phone agents from Yaplet or a connected AI app: read the agents, their calls and transcripts, create and change an agent, pause one and delete one. Resuming an agent and anything about phone numbers stay with a person.
Overview
From Yaplet, the assistant inside your dashboard, or a connected AI app, an AI can look after your voice agents: see how they are set up, read what was said on a call, write or change an agent's instructions, and pause or delete an agent. The AI looks the actions up with find_actions and runs each one with the run tool for its kind — see MCP Server.
Nothing starts answering real callers because of an AI. A new agent has no phone number until a person attaches one, and a paused agent stays paused until a person resumes it.
In Yaplet, every change and delete waits for your Confirm first; a delete gets a red card, because it cannot be undone. Each one is recorded in the Audit Log as AI change or AI delete or send.
Actions
| Action | Level | What it does |
|---|---|---|
voice.list_agents | Read | The phone agents you may reach, newest first: name, whether it is active or paused, brand, language, voice, its phone numbers, and whether its brand has anything to look up on a call. |
voice.get_agent | Read | One phone agent in full: all of the above, plus its instructions, its greeting, whether a caller can interrupt the greeting, and whether its calls are recorded. |
voice.list_calls | Read | Calls, newest first: real or test, status, the agent, the caller's number, start and end, length, the charge in US dollars and how the call ended. It can narrow them down by agent, brand, real or test calls, and dates. |
voice.get_call | Read | One call: all of the above, plus its summary when it has one, whether a recording exists, and the transcript with who said what. When your workspace masks personal data, it is masked here too. |
voice.create_agent | Change | Creates a phone agent for a brand from a name and instructions, and optionally a voice, a language and a greeting. Call recording starts switched off. |
voice.update_agent | Change | Changes an agent's name, instructions, voice, language or greeting, or whether a caller can interrupt the greeting. If the agent has a phone number, the change reaches real callers from the next call. |
voice.pause_agent | Change | Pauses an agent. From the next call on, a caller to its number hears the error message and the call ends. Its number and settings stay. |
voice.delete_agent | Delete or send | Deletes one agent for good; there is no trash. The AI must repeat the agent's exact name. Its phone numbers stay and are still billed, but nothing answers them until a person attaches another agent. Its past calls stay, without an agent. |
get_account_state also reports your phone agents: how many there are, and any that need attention, such as an agent with no number or a paused agent that still has one. See Data Access Tools.
What Uses Credits
Creating an agent, or giving one a new greeting, voice or language, generates speech. That uses credits, and the AI is refused when nobody can pay for it. Changing an agent's name or instructions costs nothing.
What a call itself costs is on Pricing and Limits.
What an AI Cannot Do Here
- Resume a paused agent. A person does that on the agent's page. An AI tells you so before it pauses one.
- Do anything with a phone number. Buying, attaching and moving numbers stay with a person, on Phone Numbers. A new agent answers nobody until a person attaches a number.
- Switch call recording. Recording callers carries legal duties, so a person decides, on the agent's page.
- Listen to a recording.
voice.get_callsays whether one exists; a person listens to it in the dashboard. - Move an agent to another brand. A person does that in the dashboard.
- Follow instructions from a caller. The words in a transcript come from the caller, so an AI reads them as information only.
Example Prompts
- "Create a front desk phone agent for my brand that speaks Hungarian."
- "Change my phone agent's greeting so it mentions our new opening hours."
- "What did callers ask about most this week?" (uses
voice.list_calls, thenvoice.get_callfor the calls it needs) - "Which calls were declined in the last 7 days, and why?"
- "Are all my phone agents ready to take calls?" (uses
get_account_stateorvoice.list_agents) - "Pause my sales phone agent."
